19th Century Culture and its Influence on Austen's Satire
Throughout all of Austen's works it is safe to say that she focuses on many of the same aspects of society during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In her writings she encompasses many issues that she was experiencing in her everyday life. It is through these experiences that she is able to humorously create the satire in her novels. Austen pokes fun at such aspects as dress, reading patterns, architecture and landscaping, literacy and language, manners and morals, social class (rank, wealth and money included), nationalism and trade, and of course the flaws in education, especially pertaining to women. She uses her wit and humor to address these issues which will be embarked on under this tab. Here you will gain insight into why Jane was writing about what she was writing about and how it was important.
