Austen's Humor: Introduced and Supported
Mrs. Jennings from Sense and Sensibility
The "Jane's Humor" portion of this site is dedicated to helping readers more fully understand Jane's sense of humor through her works. For each of the four selected novels, research has been done on each to not only give an understanding of what Jane is actually saying in her writing, but to also support this with scholarly research. Jane's inspiration came from many realms of her life. It is here that these influences are uncovered and delved into with specific passages from her works to support this research.
"Her complexion was sallow; and her features small, without beauty, and naturally without expression; but a lucky contraction of the brow had rescued her countenance from the disgrace of insipidity, giving the strong characters of pride and ill nature." (Austen describing Mrs. Ferras: Sense and Sensibility, Chapter 12; Volume 2)
